Authentic Italian Focaccia
Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1-½ cups warm water
- ¼ cup olive oil, plus plus extra for topping
- 1 2-¼ package active dry yeast
- 1 tsp. granulated sugar
- 2 tsp. salt
- 2 tbsp. fresh rosemary, chopped
- Flaky sea salt, for topping
Instructions
Activate the yeast:
- In a bowl, combine warm water, yeast and granulated sugar.
- Let sit for 10 minutes until frothy.
Prepare the dough:
- In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.
- Gradually add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
- Knead until smooth; about 8 -10 minutes.
Allow the dough to rise:
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise for 1 – 2 hours, or until doubled in size.
Prepare the focaccia:
- Pre-heat the oven to 400°F.
- Transfer the dough to a greased baking pan, pressing it out evenly.
- Dimple the surface with your fingers and drizzle with olive oil.
- Sprinkle with rosemary and flaky salt.
- Place in the pre-heated oven and bake for 20 – 25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before slicing and serving warm.
