Authentic Italian Focaccia

Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1-½ cups warm water
  • ¼ cup olive oil, plus plus extra for topping
  • 1 2-¼ package active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp. granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tbsp. fresh rosemary, chopped
  • Flaky sea salt, for topping

Instructions
 

Activate the yeast:

  • In a bowl, combine warm water, yeast and granulated sugar.
  • Let sit for 10 minutes until frothy.

Prepare the dough:

  • In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.
  • Gradually add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  • Knead until smooth; about 8 -10 minutes.

Allow the dough to rise:

  • Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise for 1 – 2 hours, or until doubled in size.

Prepare the focaccia:

  • Pre-heat the oven to 400°F.
  • Transfer the dough to a greased baking pan, pressing it out evenly.
  • Dimple the surface with your fingers and drizzle with olive oil.
  • Sprinkle with rosemary and flaky salt.
  • Place in the pre-heated oven and bake for 20 – 25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before slicing and serving warm.
