- 2 large sweet onions, chopped
- 1 tsp. Italian seasoning
- ¾ tsp. kosher salt
- ½ tsp. garlic powder
- ½ tsp. black pepper
- 4-ounces cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup mayonnaise (see note)
- ½ cup sour cream (see note)
- 1 cup mild cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 cup smoked gouda cheese, shredded
- Potato chips or crackers, your choice, optional
Instructions
- Pre-heat oven to 350°F.
- Melt butter in a 10-inch cast-iron skillet over medium-high.
- Add onion, Italian seasoning, salt, garlic powder, and pepper to pan; sauté 5 minutes.
- Reduce heat to medium; cook until onions are almost tender, about 5 minutes; stirring frequently.
- Stir in cream cheese until melted; stir in mayonnaise and sour cream.
- Gradually add cheddar and gouda; stirring until cheeses melt.
- Place the skillet in the pre-heated oven and bake until dip is bubbly and starting to brown on top; 10 to 12 minutes.
- Serve warm with potato chips or crackers.
Notes
Try adding crumbed bacon to the dip for and additional flavoring.
Dip may become too stiff for a chips dip when refrigerated; however, easy to fix by doubling the amounts of mayonnaise and sour cream.
