Italian Stromboli

Italian Stromboli

Italian Stromboli is a traditional Italian dish made of pizza dough rolled into a log shape and filled with a variety of savory ingredients. Popular fillings include salami, mozzarella, prosciutto, ricotta and vegetables such as peppers and mushrooms.

Ingredients

  • 1 tube Pillsbury pizza crust
  • 8 slices deli ham
  • 10 slices Genoa salami
  • 12 slices sandwich pepperoni
  • 8 slices provolone or mozzarella cheese (shredded cheese also works well)
  • 2 tbsp. butter
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tsp. parsley, chopped
  • 3 tbsp. Parmesan cheese
  • Marinara sauce, for dipping

Instructions

  • Pre-heat the oven to the temperature stated on the pizza dough packaging.
  • Melt the butter in the microwave and mix in the minced garlic, parsley and Parmesan cheese; set aside.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Stretch the pizza crust out to almost the size of your baking sheet.
  • Layer the deli meats; start with the ham, then the salami followed by the pepperoni; the cheese should make the last layer.
  • Roll the Stromboli longwise and be sure to seal the seam and ends well.
  • Pinch them and mold the excess dough to the underside of the Stromboli.
  • Score the top a few times with a serrated knife (to allow the steam to escape while baking).
  • Top the Stromboli with the garlic butter mixture.
  • Place in the pre-heated oven and bake for the time listed on the packaging for a pizza., except do not par bake as instructed on the package, if par baking is included in the instructions.
  • Typical Stromboli has marinara sauce inside; however, since I like to dip mine in the sauce, I have not included the inclusion in this recipe. Certainly, feel free to use it on the inside if you like.
