Neely’s Perfect Mashed Potatoes
Ingredients
- 5-pounds Russet potatoes, peeled and quartered
- 8 tbsp. butter
- 1 cup milk (see note below)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Bring a pot of salted water to a boil.
- Add potatoes and cook until tender but still firm; about 15 minutes; drain.
- In a small saucepan, over low heat, heat butter and milk until butter is melted.
- Using a potato masher or electric beater, slowly blend milk mixture into potatoes until smooth and creamy.
- Season with salt and pepper, to taste.
- Remove from pot and place in a serving bowl.
Notes
Slowly add the milk and butter mixture as you mash the potatoes. Continue adding until mashed potatoes have reached a firm but creamy texture.
