Original Restaurant Style Chili

Ingredients
  

  • 2-pounds fresh ground beef
  • 1 medium-large onion, chopped
  • 1-quart tomato juice, more if desired
  • 1 15-ounce can tomato purée
  • 2 15-ounce cans red kidney beans, drained
  • 1 15-ounce can pinto beans, drained
  • 1/2 cup celery, diced
  • 1/4 cup green bell pepper, diced
  • 1/4 cup chili powder
  • 1 tsp. ground cumin
  • 1 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp. sugar
  • 1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper

Instructions
 

  • In a 6-quart pot, over medium heat, add the ground beef and the onion.
  • Cook until ground beef is no longer pink and onion is translucent.
  • Drain the fat, if necessary.
  • Add the remaining ingredients to the pot.
  • Cover and let the chili simmer for 1 to 1 ½ hours; stirring every 15 minutes.
