In a medium bowl, stir together the grated sharp cheddar cheese, mayonnaise, chopped pecans, chopped green onion, salt and pepper.
Using a 9-inch x 9-inch baking pan or 9-inch pie pan, spread the above mixture in an even layer,
Spread the 2 cups of raspberry preserves over the top of the cheese mixture in an even layer.
Chill the dip in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
Serve with round butter crackers.
