Original Restaurant Style Chili
Ingredients
- 2-pounds fresh ground beef
- 1 medium-large onion, chopped
- 1-quart tomato juice, more if desired
- 1 15-ounce can tomato purée
- 2 15-ounce cans red kidney beans, drained
- 1 15-ounce can pinto beans, drained
- 1/2 cup celery, diced
- 1/4 cup green bell pepper, diced
- 1/4 cup chili powder
- 1 tsp. ground cumin
- 1 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. ground black pepper
- 1/2 tsp. dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp. sugar
- 1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper
Instructions
- In a 6-quart pot, over medium heat, add the ground beef and the onion.
- Cook until ground beef is no longer pink and onion is translucent.
- Drain the fat, if necessary.
- Add the remaining ingredients to the pot.
- Cover and let the chili simmer for 1 to 1 ½ hours; stirring every 15 minutes.
