Dutch Apple Pie Bread

Ingredients
  

For the Bread:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 cups green apples, peeled and diced

For the Topping:

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp. ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

Instructions
 

To prepare the Dutch apple pie bread:

  • Pre-heat oven to 350°F.
  • Prepare a bread pan with non-stick cooking spray or parchment paper. 
  • Use a stand mixer or hand mixer to cream together butter and sugar for bread.
  • Add milk and egg then vanilla.
  • Continue to mix until well combined. 
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, salt and baking powder.
  • Slowly add the above mixture to your wet ingredients; mix until well combined.
  • Fold in green apples. 

To prepare the topping:

  • In a mixing bowl, add all ingredients.
  • Using clean hands, use your fingers to pinch and mix until the topping is crumbly.

To assemble and bake the Dutch apple pie bread:

  • Place the mixture in the prepared pan.
  • Spread the topping over the top of the bread.
  • Place in the pre-heated oven and bake for 55 – 60 minutes or until a toothpick can come out clean. 

Notes

A standard 9-inch x 5-inch bread pan is recommended for this recipe.
Overmixing could cause the bread to sink in when baking; be sure to just mix until your ingredients are combined.
A great substitution for apple pie spice would be 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon plus 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg.
If you notice that your bread is getting really brown on top but not done baking yet, place a piece of aluminum foil over the top and let it finish baking covered.
The streusel topping really does take this recipe over the top and make it the perfect fall treat. You are going to love this bread!
Allow the bread to cool in pan before inverting and removing. Run a butter knife down along all edges before doing this to prevent it from sticking.
