Carmalized Onions

Ingredients
  

  • 3 tbsp. butter
  • 2 tbsp. olive oil
  • 2-½ pounds onions, thinly sliced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tsp. granulated sugar

Instructions
 

  • In a large skillet, over medium-high heat, melt the butter in the olive oil.
  • Add the onions; season well with salt and pepper.
  • Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions begin to soften; about 5 minutes.
  • Reduce the heat to medium.
  • Stir in the sugar; continue to cook; scraping the browned bits off the bottom of the pan occasionally, until the onions are golden brown; approximately 20 to 30 minutes.
