Overnight Praline French Toast

Ingredients
  

For the Praline French Toast:

  • 1 loaf French bread, sliced 1-inch thick
  • 8 eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups half-and-half
  • 1 cup milk1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp. sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • Pinch salt

For the Praline Topping:

  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp. light corn syrup
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup pecans, chopped

For Serving:

  • Maple syrup

Instructions
 

To prepare the praline French toast:

  • Coat a 13 x 9-inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray. 
  • Arrange bread slices in the pan in two rows with the slices overlapping.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine eggs, half-and-half, milk, vanilla extract, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  • Pour egg mixture over the bread slices. 
  • Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  • When ready to bake and serve, remove from refrigerator and pre-heat oven to 350°F.

To prepare the praline topping:

  • Prepare the praline topping just before you plan to bake the French toast.
  • In a saucepan, over medium heat, melt butter.
  • Add brown sugar, corn syrup, cinnamon, and nutmeg. 
  • Continue to heat, stirring constantly, until mixture is smooth. 
  • Remove from heat and stir in chopped pecans.
  • Spread pecan mixture evenly over the top of the bread slices.

Completing the praline French toast:

  • Bake, uncovered, for 40 minutes or until puffy and golden brown.
  • Remove from oven and serve with maple syrup.
