Overnight Praline French Toast
Ingredients
For the Praline French Toast:
- 1 loaf French bread, sliced 1-inch thick
- 8 eggs, beaten
- 2 cups half-and-half
- 1 cup milk1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp. sugar
- 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg
- Pinch salt
For the Praline Topping:
- 3/4 cup butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp. light corn syrup
- 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
- 1 cup pecans, chopped
For Serving:
- Maple syrup
Instructions
To prepare the praline French toast:
- Coat a 13 x 9-inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
- Arrange bread slices in the pan in two rows with the slices overlapping.
- In a mixing bowl, combine eggs, half-and-half, milk, vanilla extract, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- Pour egg mixture over the bread slices.
- Cover and refrigerate overnight.
- When ready to bake and serve, remove from refrigerator and pre-heat oven to 350°F.
To prepare the praline topping:
- Prepare the praline topping just before you plan to bake the French toast.
- In a saucepan, over medium heat, melt butter.
- Add brown sugar, corn syrup, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Continue to heat, stirring constantly, until mixture is smooth.
- Remove from heat and stir in chopped pecans.
- Spread pecan mixture evenly over the top of the bread slices.
Completing the praline French toast:
- Bake, uncovered, for 40 minutes or until puffy and golden brown.
- Remove from oven and serve with maple syrup.
